I was born in North Charleston at the old Charleston Navy Hospital and raised one block away from the Hospital Gate. I walked to the St Johns Catholic school for 8 years where I, my brother and 5 sisters attended. I graduated from North Charleston HS in 1973 and then after giving the College of Charleston a try, I ended up getting an Associate’s Degree in Commercial Graphics from Trident Technical College.  The advertising business didn’t pay too well back then, so I went to work at the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a Sheetmetal mechanic and in 1992, I grabbed my wife and 4 children and moved to Port Orchard Washington to work at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton.  

After hearing about my mother’s failing health we decided to move back home to Charleston so I could help her out and allow her grandchildren to visit her more often. I worked as a handyman for a property rental company that had over 650 units while my wife Cinde worked as a teacher for Charleston County School District.

I visited my brother Lenny one rainy day at his Allstate office in Mt Pleasant and he asked me ‘what will it take to get you off the ladders and out of the rain?’ and thus began my start in the insurance industry.  Selling home insurance at Allstate was getting slow and tough to do, so one day out of the blue I mentioned to my brother that maybe I should ask your old friend Henry Lowndes if he had any openings and he said, ‘that’s a great idea’ and that’s when I moved to CT Lowndes in 2005.

I played some football and ran track in high school and coached my sons in T-ball and Little League baseball for 10 years. I was a member of the Charleston Sertoma Club for 15 years and was the 2009 Sertoma Football Classic chairman. I enjoy boating, fishing, CofC baseball and basketball, the Citadel football, and hanging out with my 4 kids and 5 grandchildren whenever possible. My wife Cinde & I love to travel and have visited 8 countries and since our son Martin lives in Lyon France, we have a long ways to go to see him, his wife and our two granddaughters.
